If the outlier turkey were taken out of the data set like the US was, the slope would be a very low number and the relationship would be more linear but also more unimpressive and much less visually striking.
Also, only one data point from Eastern Asia? That is very dubious. Not including economically potent countries like India and China is bound to throw off the data. Russia is also not in here. Neither are any Middle Eastern countries or economically powerful countries in South America. Any data bound to disprove the relationship (other than the US) is simply excluded. It’s a very incomplete chart at best, and at worst an extremely deceptive and inaccurate chart.
