Go to Control Panel> Sound> Properties> Enhancements and check the boxes as noted above. You should notice an improvement in audio. You can also click the ‘Advanced’ tab and try to use the highest Studio Quality option.

I tried it since I figured my lil ASUS U6 could use all the help but the above configuration made it worse. Thanks for the tip though.
I have more options on my Realtek card, but the only one I get from above is “Loudness Equalization’….
This tip would be more useful if It distinguished which settings apply to any user of Win 7 (or Vista) and which are specific to particular audio cards and/or speakers.
The tabs and options on my Thinkpad T61 Win 7 system are quite different.
Useful for some but my properties – Asus- Sound Max- showed quite different tabs.
great tips on audio.
my sounds are exceptional.
thanks guys, tree
I personally find loudness equalization annoying, as it causes volume fluctuations and eliminates dynamic range. Even playing around with more advanced loudness equalizers, I can never make it responsive enough for my ears, and I still catch those fluctuations.
Just my two cents.
This may be great for plain vanilla systems, but my system has a Sound Blaster card and it does not have these options. Of course, it has a ton of other options
