It would be very helpful to be able to assign specific character map items to a certain function key or have some keyboard shortcut to specific characters. I dream of typing - 75° - in three routine keystrokes. Or typing - 3½ - in two keystrokes. (My goodness, even my old mechanical typewriter had this capability) If there is a registry hack or some third party software that would make this possible, it would be of great benefit to me and surely many other readers. Perhaps I can mention another pet peeve of mine without getting off topic. The U.S. cent symbol is not even present in the character map (or standard U.S. keyboard). There should be a way to describe 32 cents without using the dollar sign ($0.32) or without spelling out "cents". Perhaps this issue would make a worthwhile future article????
