We’ve been using SpywareBlaster for years and it compliments any existing anti-malware application that you may use. A truly tiny, free, unobtrusive app that works. A paid version offers auto-updating, $9.95 for a year.
From Javacool:
“Why SpywareBlaster? Spyware, adware, browser hijackers, and dialers are some of the most annoying and pervasive threats on the Internet today. By simply browsing a web page, you could find your computer to be the brand-new host of one of these unwanted fiends!
The most important step you can take is to secure your system.
And SpywareBlaster is the most powerful protection program available.
Multi-Angle Protection
- Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware and other potentially unwanted programs.
- Block spying / tracking via cookies.
- Restrict the actions of potentially unwanted or dangerous web sites.”

This is a phenomenal piece of software… I have been using it for several years and it works like a charm.
A really essential program for all the hazards of a Windows system. I’ve used it for a long time and it’s served its purpose very well.
My wife does use this product and has recently problems with it. It has consistently failed to register that she uses Mozilla Firefox as her web browser and would not enable the protections for this browser when she downloads updates.
The problem is caused by the fact that she uses ZoneAlarm Security protection, which includes ZoneAlarm ForceField. Because it creates a ‘virtual’ computer each time she uses the web which is destroyed when she signs off, there is no firefox profile created and therefore SpywareBlaster can not find one to enable its protections.
You need to open an unprotected browser to bypass ZoneAlarm Forcefield so that a Firefox profile can be created on your computer.
