After doing sound research on the Internet, I found no criticisms of either Windows Defender or Windows 7 Firewall and Microsoft Security Essential., All the geeky guys, after thorough testing, agree that the security given by the Microsoft is sound and provides all the security needed to keep Windows 7 safe. I find that with MS Security Essentials Windows active, Windows Defender won’t activate. However, I use MBAM and SUPERAnti-Spyware Pro, which both give realtime protection.
My XP Home SP3, fully updated, has the free avast! and the same two anti-malware programs active, along with the free COMODO Firewall. It has been security enough for an old man who keeps his PCs clean and avoids what are known to be bad. Why pay for security when there are excellent, free alternatives..
I agree that Microsoft offerings are as good or better than the rest, which isn’t saying much really as most of them are pretty poor at stopping any new threats. 99% of PC security is staying away from bad websites and e-mail attachments etc etc etc, no one in IT will admit it though, too much money in it. Which is the irony of IT workers as they all moan about non IT people, but are still happy to take their money for products that are just shoddy. The freebie people are keeping it real, as most products aren’t worth paying for, zero price is fairly close to their true value.

If you have Security Essentials you don’t need Windows Defender: MSE is just Defender extended with virus protection.
Ya.. i have.. but the thing is it has many false detection ..
I some time ago purposely infected my system with the Rough Anti-virus program. Microsoft Security Essentials detected it, but could not get rid of it. I had to go to the old standby of disinfecting with MalwareBytes. For anyone, do not depend on just some anti-virus programs, but at the same time don’t have more than one installed and running. Always have a backup for those times with Malwarebytes or SuperAntisyware.
